Just when you think the world is a huge place

June 7th, 2008

I wanted to share a funny story with my readers. Last night after spending some time at a few local bars, a few friends and I made our way to the Casino for some poker. We all sat down at our respective tables, and I start making conversation with the gentlemen to my left. As it turns out he is a web developer that doubles for a domainer. In fact, he is an active member on NamePros forum.

He recently was working on a trade deal with another Domainer that I know. The other domainer asked me for advice on the deal, I suggested what he do and they made a trade accordingly. I had thought that the deal was fantastic for the other domainer and suggested to him to do whatever it took to make it work, he did. A couple day later im sitting next to the “other” guy at a poker table.

Just when you think the world is a huge place, it gets just a little bit smaller.

NameJet knocks one out of the Park - Centerfield.com sells for $18,400

June 6th, 2008

A premium baseball domain name, Centerfield.com closed at NameJet today for $18,400. Some fierce bidding took place at the very end, with several of the larger buyers stepping in to try and win this one over. Considering we are in the middle of Baseball season it may be a bit too late to do any development work on this one, but I still see some decent revenue being made when this one gets parked. Congrats to the new owners.

NamePros Auction - Names to Watch

June 4th, 2008

NamePros throws a nice little chat auction about every 2 weeks. I had submitted 3 for auction, and it appears two will actually make it. The first, is Pihy.com a pronounceable CVCY.com domain name, its currently just over $300 at prebidding and the other is TWDG.com which is an aged domain (11 years old). Just over $100 prebid on that one.

The bidding will start in the Namepros chat room designated for auctions at 6PM EDT. (3pm on the west coast). Good luck.

What do you do with $560,000? Buy LLL.com’s

June 4th, 2008

Michael Gleissner and BigFoot.com are now the proud owners of 14 LLL.com’s which they just purchased from BuyDomains. At $40,000 per domain name, they spent a total of $560,000. The following is a list of domains they purchased:

  • VTP.com
  • NDP.com
  • JOK.com
  • GAE.com
  • VUT.com
  • PFO.com
  • JUK.com
  • GAN.com
  • DVU.com
  • VVP.com
  • QTN.com
  • KKD.com
  • GDD.com
  • FFM.com

What does this mean in the grand scheme of things? LLL.com’s seem to be catching fire. Fewer and fewer are available at any given moment on the reseller market and there is clear appreciation. Just two years ago you could get a lower end LLL.com for $2,500-$3,000 and today they are touching between $8,500 - $9,000 at the bottom tier. An acquisition of this size and cost will only invigorate the market, creating further demand.

Did they get a good deal? No. It appears that there are other quality LLL.com’s on the market available, for substancially less. The only pattern that I can detect this early is that all domains were owned by BuyDomains.

More to follow, Im sure.

If you would like to come please email me - Justin (at) NameBio.com.

This time around we’ll be a bit more organized with some discussion topics and perhaps a few suprises.

Verisign Technical Problems - No .com or .nets dropping today

June 3rd, 2008

Pool sent out an email to their customers today, advising that domain names that should have dropped today, will be delayed until tomorrow. I cant recall a time this has happened previously. This should not effect domain names that don’t truely drop, like most of those on TDNAM and NameJet.

Stunning Photograph

June 3rd, 2008

I apologize in advance for the non domain related posting. Early this morning as I was scanning CNN I came across a story of a drunk driver in Mexico who slammed into a Bicycle race, head on. One person was killed and many others injured. Amazingly, a single snap shot was taken the moment of impact and the image itself absolutely stunned me.

This was an absolute tragedy and my wishes go to the families of those injured.

Pizza.com - Back on the Market after a No-Sale

June 2nd, 2008

It appears two big names today that were thought to have been sold, are still on the open market. Pizza.com which was auctioned off at a GreatDomains auction for over 2 million dollars did not complete and is now being listed for the same price it ended at auction. Additionally the domain name Israel.com was thought to have been sold for roughly 5 million, but that too is being reported as false.

38,000 Domain Sales and Counting

June 1st, 2008

NameBio.com hit a milestone today when we reported over 38,000 domain sales. Thanks in part to our feeds from NameJet and Snapnames, we anticipate hitting the 40,000 domain sales mark by the end of this month. The more sales collected, the more important relevent NameBio will become. Also, towards the end of June we expect to have a few great new features added. So hold onto your hats, its going to be a great month!
