How did Bido do?
June 19th, 2008Yesterday the new domain auction service Bido was launched. The site itself and interface are nice and simple, but the auction line up was a bit less than impressive. The first auction was for DiscountImages.com which even the experts weren’t in love with. The domain pulled in just under $1,000 netting Bido a very small profit. I thought the choice for their first auction was a mistake. It didnt have the “ewwww ahhhh” factor, and didnt create the buzz needed for a new auction platform like this.
Today they are set to auction off a par geo domain name, GolfIowa.com. Whats so special about this domain name? Not much. If you were looking for the most premium version of these keywords, you’d be looking at IowaGolf in my opinion. It has twice as many search results and almost all TLDs are taken. Currently GolfIowa.org is available.

Thank you. I share the same sentiments.

I think the name may work well as a call-to-action type name if you make the word “golf” a verb. That how I would look at it…

John,
I hear you, but even still. In terms of search releveance. If you were looking for Golfing in Idaho - what would you type in the SE? Would it be - Golf Idaho or Idaho Golf ?

I wouldn’t even spend Justin’s money to buy GolfIowa.com. Well it sold for $460 and that’s $460 I could of found a much better home for.
RYY.com is clearly the best domain in the auction, but those are the kinds of domains that people want/wanted to see. We all know Sahar has some great domains but why he put up so many So/So names to start I am not sure.

I think the reason they launched with such mediocre names is they weren’t sure they would have enough deep pocketed buyers viewing the site. It’d be a shame to see a pure generic category killer selling for $8k because nobody is paying attention.
I really think as the site continues to grow we’ll see some really high-quality names on the block. However, with these average names at launch will they ever get to that point, or will people lose interest first?
