Leatherheads.com - the Stupidity continues (part 2)
March 27th, 2008Earlier in the day, I reported that Universal Studios allowed the domain name, Leatherheads.com to expire just days before the release of their full feature movie. As I watched television earlier this evening, I came across one of their commercials. As it went through, I was curious to know where they had actually decided to host the movie site but as the commerical ended, I hadn’t seen one.
Thanks to the miracle of DVR, I went back slowly to examine the end of the commercial credits and there it was. Carefully hidden away so you could barely make it out, the domain name the site was hosted on: LeatherheadsMovie.com
At this point in the story, you must be asking yourself, who in Gods name is running Universal Studios Internet marketing? Why would you use LeatherheadsMovie.com, when you’ve owned Leatherheads.com for 10 years? Stupidity at its finest.

Hi,
Since the domain just dropped days ago, surely
they could renew it.
It seems mo one there is even aware this has happened…and probably no one cares.
See this if you haven’t already:

Patrick,
Thanks you for your comments and recognizing my typo error. It has been corrected. Yes, the domain is clearly within renewal time, but the issue is a bit more interesting then that. Im mostly focusing on the timing here. They have had this domain name for 7 + years, waiting for this movie to be made and put on the big screen. Then… instead of using the movie title, they opt for Title+Movie - when there is no need for it. Then, they let the domain expire 2 weeks before the theatrical release. I stand by my statements that Universal Studios needs new web management.

“I stand by my statements that Universal Studios needs new web management.”
Of course, you’re right.
But they are not the only ones.
