I recently was surprisingly thrust into a NameJet auction when a mysterious bidder seemed to appear out of nowhere for a domain name that had expired several months earlier. It was a weekend and the mysterious bidder did not bid. Nor did I and I received notice that I won the auction and they (Network Solutions) debited my charge card. The following day they locked my account and credited my charge card. Subsequently they re-auctioned the domain name. Guess they forgot to bid against me as the auction was over the weekend and $69 was not enough….….

Eric,

I had thought the same, in fact. I had made an accusation of Shill bidding by NameJet, however I believe the story the rep is telling me and it makes sense.

I have a theory:

namejet themself bids up the auction, they actually win, they then give it to the 2nd highest bidder, you.

And you win and pay.
