Pre-Auction Bidding @ DomainTools

January 2nd, 2008

It amuses me that DomainTools has opted just like last time, to open up their auction with prebidding. Much like last time, only a handful of domain names has a prebid on it. In a perfect world, people who had intereste would begin bidding the domain name up, before the auction technically even starts, but in a fast paced world of Sniping and patience, making a pre-bid can be down right silly.

Consider that you may very well be higlighting the domain name that someone may not have paid much attention to, if you just popped a bid in with 20 seconds remaining. Any bids that are in place now, are allowed to marinate and sink into some of the other buyers watching the list. “Oh, I didnt like it at first, but after doing some research, I love it”….

Personally I think its just plane silly. Set a date, publish the auction list, and contact the buyers. Give each listing 45 seconds or so - and let the auction roll. Just my thoughts….
