Shania.com - Sells for $10,100

July 28th, 2008

The first name domain, Shania.com sold on NameJet yesterday for $10,100. The name is famously associated with the recording artist, Shania Twain. Although popular names (both first and last) always tend to do well on the aftermarkets, I am beginning to question their real end-user appeal. The chances of having some crazy millionaire buy a domain name like Shania.com off of you for mid xx,xxx is seemingly more farfetched then perhaps I earlier thought.

Besides being a Novelty, is there a huge advantage to owning onces name domain? I cant tell you how much I would love to own Justin.com or Allen.com - but would I be willing to pay what is market value for those domains? Of course not. Its cost value is not worth its actual value to me. I believe resellers are driving up prices on these types of domain names, with very little chance of end-user sales.
