Recent Updates: Trend Graphs, Extension Filter & More!

We’ve been hard at work making improvements to the site functionality including the addition of trend graphs, changes to the Extension filter in the advanced search form, the addition of a new data source, and more. In this article I’ll walk you through the latest updates to our site.

Trend Graphs

This addition to the site has been long overdue. Seeing a detailed list of all sales that match your search parameters is great, but it is very difficult to get a “big picture” view of how the average price is trending over time. Some users were even copying the data into Excel so they could make their own graphs. Now you’ll find a graph showing the average price broken down by week going all the way back to 2007 when NameBio first launched, both on the home page and on the domain details pages.

We have plenty of data prior to 2007, but there were a lot fewer sales being added on a weekly basis and it was skewed towards the larger sales. Including those years threw off the scale on the graph too much and we decided to leave them out.

Want to see how CHIPS LLLL.com sales have been trending? No problem, just click here and scroll down to the graph:

The trend graph is built live from your exact search results, so you can see how literally anything is trending. Want a glimpse of how .io is trending? No problem. Want to see how CVCV.com domains ending in “A” are doing? You can do that too. You could even just filter by venue and see how a company like NameJet’s average sale is trending over time. The graph uses data from all sales in the database matching your search results, not just the 100 we display in the table above the graph.

The Extension Filter

There are two changes to the extension filter. The first is that you can now search through the list to more quickly find your selection. If you want to find .co for example, just type “.co” into the field and you’re there, no more scrolling through that unwieldy list.

We also added an “All ccTLDs” filter at the suggestion of one of our users. This will be useful if you want to, for example, find comps for a single letter ccTLD but there aren’t enough results for the ccTLD you’re looking for. Now you can just set the length from 1 to 1 (or do a pattern of “L”), choose All ccTLDs, and have plenty of comps at your disposal.

New Data Source

We added Park.io as a data source that we’re checking daily. They are a drop catching service for ccTLDs, mainly for .io but also .ly, .to, .me, and more. Other than Flippa they’re probably one of the biggest sources of sales for these popular ccTLDs. We also added them to the Venue filter so you can easily see what is going on there.

HTTPS Everywhere

The final change is that we switched the site over to “https” instead of “http”. This doesn’t really have much of an impact on you at the moment, but I wanted to mention it in case anyone notices any problems like a broken lock icon in your address bar or something.

I hope you find these latest changes useful!
